Pilot Pod: Wynnona Earp "Purgatory" - What Makes The Show A Cult Classic?

#Wayhaught #WynonnaEarp #Pilot #SyFy #Tubi

It's the PilotPod you've been asking for! When our listeners found out Wynonna Earp was returning for a TV movie, we got heaps of requests to review the Pilot! Especially since Amy has never seen it! Take a listen as two of the hosts step back in time and re-watch the pilot, and learn what Amy thought on her first gander. Did we remember the....kidna cheesy stunts? Are we hear for the mythology or the characters? And we wonder - does knowing where the show goes, and that it leaves fans happy, make us more inclined to forgive faults?   Let us know what you think!

We watched Netflix's new fantasy action movie Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown. Did we enjoy the movie? Um...not quite. The Legendary Ladies (minus Amy due to wifi issues) dive into Netflix's newest collaboration with Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown. We ask, as always, who is this for? Why wasn't the main character more interesting in a movie that's basically just about one character? Did this movie subvert the damsel in distress trope and at this point does that trope even need to be subverted?

Spoiler alert! Amy and Morgan are back this week to discuss the entire first season of the live action Avatar: The Last Airbender. And yes, we watched the whole series. And yes, we’re still not sure who this was for. But we did have expectations (even if we may have lowered them a little) - and we were eager to share our thoughts on whether those expectations were met. During the course of this nearly two hour episode, Amy and Morgan break down the characters, the plot, and the other elements that wove their wave into this series. What did we think about Katara’s complete lack of growth? Did diving headlong into the deeper connection between Iroh and Zuko do the characters justice? How did we handle combining four storylines into one at Omashu? Find out this - as well as what musical moment sent Amy into a tailspin - and more on this week’s episode!

It's the episode you've been waiting for! The Legendary Ladies are here with their review of the first episode of Netflix's new Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Each host has seen the full run of the animated series, but each their own connection to the source material. Among a host of other topics, they discuss the changes at the start of the episode and the introduction of the Air Nomads, what they feel about the choices made by the creators regarding Aang's character, and whether or not changes in the plot actually affected the flow of the story. But as they discuss the series, the hosts come to recognize that they may be physically incapable of viewing the series objectively. With the animated series being, to many viewers (and our hosts), quite near perfect, they wonder - what can *this* series do to be more than just..."fine"?

With awards season buzzing in the air, The Legendary Ladies go back in time to review the 2014 film Whiplash. A personal movie favorite for one of the hosts, and a challenging watch for another, the discussion led Amy, Kat, and Morgan on an invigorating debate on more than one heavy topic Can a movie engage you, but not move you? Is there a difference between a tragic ending, and a sad ending - and does that change your perception of the film? Does a connection to the source material cloud your perception of the movie? Is this film...perfect?

"It's a lovely day in hell!", sing the characters of this week's PilotPod - Prime Video's new series, Hazbin Hotel. Reviewing this unexpectedly musical pilot, the Legendary Ladies are surprised to find that...all three of them like the show! They chat about why whacky stories with character heartbeats attract the hosts, whether or not the clear "anti-disney" feel is actually *too* over the top, and debate whether the exposition at the start of the show was beneficial or detrimental to the pilot.

You go Glen Coco! The Legendary Ladies are back to chat about the new Mean Girls (2024) movie (/musical/adaptation/not-adaption?). Amy, Kat, and Morgan, all of whom are *well* acquainted with the original 2004 version, break down what worked and what didn't in this movie based on a musical based on a movie based on a book. They discussed whether the updated "tech" of the tiktok age helped the movie, or if it was actually too muted to be realistic, how the lack of Cady's internal monologue changed your fundamental perspective on the main character, and whether or not the queer aspects of the film were prevalent and poignant enough for the hype from the press tour. The Legendary Ladies react! This week, Amy and Kat sit down with the Oscar Nominee list and discuss their thoughts on the nominees. They discuss the biggest snubs, the irony of some of the nominations, and who they think will win in each category. They also learn more about Christopher Nolan's cinematography style, discuss the idea of one monologue securing a nomination, and discuss whether the increased overall diversity of the Best Picture Voting Field is overshadowed by a lack of diversity in certain categories.

There's also an earthquake.

As they dive into their spoiler filled reaction to the pilot, Amy and Morgan discuss what drew them to the show in the first place. They also discuss the whether or not they like the characters of the first episode, the trust evident in the intimacy scenes, and how the cinematography of the episode sets the show up to be a beautiful series.

The Legendary Ladies are back for some holiday fun! This year, Amy and Kat review the Hallmark film "Friends and Family Christmas", a big deal for members of the queer community hoping to see themselves represented in the mainstream "Hallmark" market. And it is important - so important. But here's the thing....they don't have much else positive to say about the film...and that's where the real discussion begins. Where was the honesty in the film? Was there a lack of care in the filmmaking? And are we, as storytellers ourselves, more inclined to be critical...and does that diminish a film that finally celebrates queer representation as normality in the holidays? It's a surprisingly deep episode from the hosts.

We'd love to hear from our listeners! Do you agree with our assessment of the film? Email us thelegendaryladies@gmail.com!

The Legendary Ladies returns after a brief holiday break! Stay tuned for updates on our Patreon, http://patreon.com/TheLegendaryLadies.

The Legendary Ladies tackle the new Netflix movie getting Oscar buzz, May December. We talk about what worked for us and what didn’t, and the layers of meaning in the film. We also discussed how the movie portrayed acting and performance and whether or not Elizabeth (Natalie Portman) was a good person. Finally we dove into a history lesson to talk about the parallels between Gracie (Julianne Moore) and the real-life teacher that inspired her character, Mary Kay Letourneau.

Écoutez un podcast de deux dames! In this PilotPod episode, Legendary Ladies, Amy and Morgan, watch the first episode of Netflix series "Lupin", which incidentally, has nothing to do with werewolves. It's also French. In this hilarious episode, Amy shares her complete confusion over poor wifi vs. dubbing and Morgan shares her history with the show's source material (Arsène Lupin)...as an anime series. On more serious notes, the hosts discuss why this pilot's dual timelines seem to work so well, whether or not there's a market for a single-character centered pilot, and how the feel of a European show changes the way you approach a series.

In this Legendary Ladies duo, Kat and Morgan discuss the latest albums from Renee Rapp and Fletcher. What did we think of “Snow Angel” and “Girl of Your Dreams?” What differences and similarities did we see between these queer artists? We talk about how Renee Rapp is blowing up right now thanks to the Mean Girls musical and mourn her departure from The Sex Lives of College Girls. We also talk about Fletcher’s string of bad luck and how she should be more popular. What album did we like best?

The State of the MCU: Is the Golden Age of Superheroes Over?

#MCU #TheMarvels #Blade #ComicBooks #Marvel #KamalaKhan #CarolDanvers

Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe too far gone? Is the golden age of Marvel over? Does the MCU need an overhaul if it wants to survive? On the heels of the jarring article released from Variety (link below), Legendary Ladies Amy and Kat dive into the state of the Marvel universe from different perspectives. On one side, Kat is largely caught up with the universe…but Amy hasn’t seen much since Endgame. Which hits the real question - why? And quite frankly, has she missed anything? But more than that, the Ladies dig into some of the problems outlined in the Variety article, and debate solutions that may solve the crisis.

For their final Spooky Season pick, the Legendary Ladies sit down to watch the gothic horror film, Crimson Peak! (Take a wild guess who picked this one!) The hosts discuss the artistic and visual imagery of the film, whether Tom Hiddleston's natural charisma served to complicate the character arc of Thomas Sharpe, and debate the allusions to other gothic horror stories. The hosts also debate whether or not the inherent care of creating an artistic film like this can balance the scales for a story with character gaps.

What's next on the Legendary Ladies Spooky Season? You are! Well...You're Next, more specifically, a horror film that came out in 2011. Kat's pick for the season, we discuss whether You're Next redefined the "final girl", setting the stage for a horror film where the victims fight back - and might actually win.

Spoilers abound in this podcast as the hosts discuss the pacing of the film and debate whether the classic slasher film opening sequence does the film justice - or ruin a potential shock value moment. But most importantly, listen closely as the Legendary Ladies reveal what would take them down in a horror movie. You never know when you'll need that knowledge.
