The Legendary Ladies Podcast

The Legendary Ladies are three Millenials with a passion for pop culture, storytelling, and media in all its forms. From television to comics, Taylor Swift to horror films, script to screen, the hosts work to share thoughtful conversations beyond the scope of your average 'watch and review' podcast. Settle in and join Amy, Kat, and Morgan wherever you listen to podcasts! Looking for The Legends of Tomorrow Podcast? You found it! Or rather, the rebranded version. After The Legends of Tomorrow was cancelled, the hosts chose to honor the loyalty of their fans by continuing to have conversations about the things we know our Legendary Listeners will enjoy. And don't worry, we promise to lay out at least a few LoT episode throwbacks a year. Especially cause AvaLance has a special place in all our hearts. It's the episode you've been waiting for! The Legendary Ladies are here with their review of the first episode of Netflix's new Avatar: The Last Airbender series. Each host has seen the full run of the animated series, but each their own connection to the source material. Among a host of other topics, they discuss the changes at the start of the episode and the introduction of the Air Nomads, what they feel about the choices made by the creators regarding Aang's character, and whether or not changes in the plot actually affected the flow of the story. But as they discuss the series, the hosts come to recognize that they may be physically incapable of viewing the series objectively. With the animated series being, to many viewers (and our hosts), quite near perfect, they wonder - what can *this* series do to be more than just..."fine"?

With awards season buzzing in the air, The Legendary Ladies go back in time to review the 2014 film Whiplash. A personal movie favorite for one of the hosts, and a challenging watch for another, the discussion led Amy, Kat, and Morgan on an invigorating debate on more than one heavy topic Can a movie engage you, but not move you? Is there a difference between a tragic ending, and a sad ending - and does that change your perception of the film? Does a connection to the source material cloud your perception of the movie? Is this film...perfect?

"It's a lovely day in hell!", sing the characters of this week's PilotPod - Prime Video's new series, Hazbin Hotel. Reviewing this unexpectedly musical pilot, the Legendary Ladies are surprised to find that...all three of them like the show! They chat about why whacky stories with character heartbeats attract the hosts, whether or not the clear "anti-disney" feel is actually *too* over the top, and debate whether the exposition at the start of the show was beneficial or detrimental to the pilot.

You go Glen Coco! The Legendary Ladies are back to chat about the new Mean Girls (2024) movie (/musical/adaptation/not-adaption?). Amy, Kat, and Morgan, all of whom are *well* acquainted with the original 2004 version, break down what worked and what didn't in this movie based on a musical based on a movie based on a book. They discussed whether the updated "tech" of the tiktok age helped the movie, or if it was actually too muted to be realistic, how the lack of Cady's internal monologue changed your fundamental perspective on the main character, and whether or not the queer aspects of the film were prevalent and poignant enough for the hype from the press tour.
